Celebrating Growth: Vanguard University Marks Major Milestones

Vanguard University is proud to celebrate a season of extraordinary momentum—evidence of God’s faithfulness and the collective commitment of our faculty, staff, and community. From reaccreditation and NCAA transition to historic enrollment and transformational philanthropy, these achievements mark a defining moment in our 105-year legacy of Christ-centered education.

A Season of Achievement

VU recently received an eight-year reaccreditation from the WASC Senior Commission of Universities and Colleges, a resounding affirmation of Vanguard’s academic quality and institutional strength. At the same time, Vanguard completed its transition to NCAA Division II one year ahead of schedule, allowing our student-athletes to compete for conference and national championships and represent the university’s values to a broader audience.

These moments reflect strategic progress and our deep commitment to the mission of pursuing knowledge, cultivating character, deepening faith, and equipping students for Spirit-empowered leadership and service.

Record-Setting Enrollment

For Fall 2025, Vanguard welcomed 2,316 degree-seeking students, our largest enrollment in history. This accomplishment represents a community-wide effort in recruitment, retention, and student support:

Traditional Undergraduates: 556 new students (448 first-time students and 108 transfers) joined us this fall, alongside 1,126 returning students, reflecting a significant increase in retention.

Graduate Education: Graduate enrollment surged to 464 students (an 88 percent increase over two years) with growth in Clinical Psychology, Theology, and Education. This includes strong enrollment in our new PK-3 Early Childhood Education Specialist Credential program.

Professional Education: Enrolled 170 students, with continued review and innovation underway.

These numbers reflect Vanguard’s growing reputation and the strength of our interdisciplinary, Christ-centered academic community.

Philanthropy Powering Transformation

Since 2013, Vanguard has received more than $105 million in donations, including a historic $35 million estate gift from Fred ’80 and Ruth Waugh, the largest in university history. This generosity has fueled:

The transformation of campus, including the Waugh Student Center and Freed Center for Leadership and Service.

Endowment growth from $3.6M in 2012 to more than $54M in 2025.

The creation of student-focused initiatives like the Headwind Scholars Program and Giving Day-funded initiatives.

Expansion of academic infrastructure, including the Patty Arvielo School of Business and Management.

A Legacy Rooted in Mission

Whether through teaching, mentoring, giving, praying, or sharing the Vanguard story, every member of our community plays a vital role in shaping lives through transformational education. Together, we are building a legacy of excellence that reflects Christ’s love and the power of a Spirit-empowered community.
