WHAT IS VANGUARD GIVING DAY?
Vanguard Giving Day is a 24-hour online giving campaign with the goal of bringing the Vanguard University community together to celebrate our Lion pride while garnering financial support for academics, student life, and athletics. To participate in Vanguard Giving Day, complete and submit an initiative application by May 30, 2025.
Vanguard Giving Day is Thursday, November 6, 2025. This year, gifts made between 12:01 a.m. on November 1, to 11:59 p.m. on November 9, count toward Giving Day. Checks sent at any time will be counted, as well. Our goal is to have 1,650 total gifts to support the Vanguard initiative(s) closest to their heart.
HOW ARE GIFTS MADE?
Donors make gifts through the Vanguard Giving Day website: vanguard.edu/givingday. The Giving Day website will track gifts in real time so that everyone can see the progress of support for each initiative, as well as updates for matches and challenges throughout the 24-hour giving period (NOTE: Early giving begins November 1). Gifts made by other methods on Giving Day (by phone or mail) also count toward the day’s totals.
By the Numbers:
- Goal to receive 1,650 gifts
- Overall fundraising goal of $425,000
- Matching gifts goal of $125,000
- 50+ initiatives across campus participating
Looking Ahead:
October:
October 1: Giving Day website will be live to browse, but no giving option is available.
October 30: A mailer will be sent from the Office of University Advancement to past Giving Day contributors and others.
November:
November 1: Gifts can be processed on website; campus partners are encouraged to email/text their alumni and supporters to donate on Giving Day.
November 6: Vanguard Giving Day!
December:
In early December, the Office of University Advancement will provide a list of all Giving Day donors. Thank you cards and envelopes will be available in the Advancement office. NOTE: Postage for thank you cards is the responsibility of each department.
January:
Funds will be allocated to your department’s GL account (if not sooner). If you have questions related to your funds, email advancement@vanguard.edu.
Communicating with Your Audience: Inform, Inspire, Direct, Thank
In any communication with your audience, via any medium, consider this formula:
> Inform the audience by giving the date and a brief overview of the initiative.
> Inspire by giving reasons to support the initiative through showing how students will benefit from the generosity of the donor.
> Direct to the location of the initiative. Put the link in the bio of the account.
> Thank the audience for their generosity.
Conduct a Social Media Campaign
> Share at least once a week, beginning the week of October 6.
> Post the day before, and a few times throughout the day to kindly challenge audience to support.
> Sharing regularly during this period will prepare the audience for the ask to support.
> Content can be fun, but appropriate for the university.
> Show/quote students and how they will benefit from the support.

Conduct a Phone, Text and/or Email Campaign

The successful campaigns followed a simple roadmap: Inform–>Inspire–>Direct–>Thank. These tasks were accomplished through brief, intentional, and thoughtful communication.
