Dear faculty and staff,

I continue to be in awe of the Lord’s provision and the outpouring of generosity within our community. As we continue to work like it depends on us and pray like it depends on Him, I see God doing immeasurably more than I could ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us (Ephesians 3:20). This list captures key milestones in the advancement journey throughout the past 10 years:

  • March 2013: Strategic planning process begins
  • September 2015: Scott Academic Center renovation completed
  • February 2019: Campus Master Plan approved by the City of Costa Mesa
  • February 2020: Waugh Student Center grand opening
  • March 2022: The largest gift ($10 million) in university history is received from the Freed Foundation for the Freed Center for Leadership and Service
  • April 2022: Landmark Campaign provided monument sign and perimeter fencing on Newport Boulevard and Fair Drive
  • October 2022: Freed Center for Leadership and Service Groundbreaking
  • Spring 2024: Grand Opening of Freed Center for Leadership and Service

As of January 2023, we have raised $15.7 million of our $18.8 million Imagine campaign goal. In this final push toward reaching our goal, I humbly ask for you to pray for the Lord’s continued provision for Vanguard. As faculty, staff, and administration, we know the value of a Christ-centered, transformational education. We see how VU prepares future teachers, pastors, social workers, businesspeople–leaders in our communities.

Will you join me in prayer for the future of our university? We are praying for:

  • $1 million to complete the fundraising goal for the Freed Center for Leadership and Service
  • $2 million toward the university endowment goal
  • 500 dedicated, generous donors to help conclude this phase of Imagine

This February, the Office of University Advancement begins the final phase of Imagine by offering additional giving opportunities to our community, alumni, and friends. One opportunity is to obtain a piece of The Pit floor. We have a limited number of floor planks available for a donation of $500 or more. The broader community will be given a chance to acquire these on March 1, but faculty and staff are able to reserve theirs early, beginning February 27. If you would like to reserve your piece, visit Forever The Pit. If you have questions, email advancement@vanguard.edu.

I am grateful to be on this journey with each of you.

All the best,

Justin McIntee
