In preparation for the Freed Center for Leadership and Service, The Pit was taken down August 12, 2022. Onlookers remembered the past, the memories made in the Pit, the legacy of a beloved space.
It is difficult to imagine now, but this rubble will soon be a 60,000 square-foot building where students, alumni, faculty and staff, and the local community will gather for athletic competitions, chapels, worship gatherings, and campus events. The three-story Freed Center will also be a space for students and student-athletes to be educated and equipped for a life of leadership and service. This dynamic athletics and learning facility will provide space for all Vanguard athletes to exercise, train, and be treated, as well as classrooms, interactive labs, and study spaces for students across disciplines.
